We provide assessments in the areas of speech, language, stuttering and literacy. Based on your concern and our initial meeting with your child, we will determine the appropriate assessment to use. We can then provide feedback around what supports or activities your child may benefit from.
Speech sounds refers to the way your child makes the sounds in the words they say. A child may have difficulty with their speech sounds if they are having trouble being understood by those around them. Speech pathology can help your child to produce their sounds correctly and be more understood by others.
Early language development refers to when your child is learning to communicate using their first words and early sentences. Some children may be later to develop these skills, and are sometimes referred to as "late talkers". Difficulties may also present as trouble following simple instructions. A speech pathologist can work closely with your family and other caregivers to support language development using play-based activities and routines.
Language refers to the way an individual expresses themselves and understands what they hear and/or read. Children who have language difficulties may have difficulty communicating with others, answering questions and following instructions. A speech pathologist will work with your child to support their individual goals.
Early literacy skills are the foundation of later reading and writing development, and include skills such as identifying the sound that letters make, breaking words into sounds and blending sounds into words. Children with speech and/or language difficulties may also have difficulties in this area. Speech pathology can help your child develop their skills in this area.
We offer parent information sessions at childcares and preschools for parents or groups that are interested in attending. These sessions can be used to discuss speech and language milestones, ways to support children’s communication and answer questions that parents may have.
